Privacy Policy

Fade ("we", "us", "our") is an ephemeral social platform. Your privacy is central to everything we build. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how we handle it.

1. What We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to operate the service:

  • Email address — used solely for account creation, login, and password recovery.
  • User-generated content — posts, comments, messages, and room content you create. All posts automatically expire and are permanently deleted within 24 hours of creation.
  • Device token — for delivering push notifications. You can opt out anytime via Settings or your device's notification preferences.
  • Basic usage data — such as impression counts and engagement metrics, used to surface trending content. This data is not linked to your personal identity.

2. What We Do NOT Collect

  • Real names, phone numbers, or profile photos
  • Location data or GPS coordinates
  • Contacts or address book information
  • Browsing history or activity outside the app
  • We do not use any AI, machine learning, or algorithmic profiling on your content

3. How We Use Your Data

  • Email: authentication and account recovery only
  • Content: displayed to other users while active, then permanently deleted after expiration
  • Device token: delivering notifications you have opted into
  • Usage data: aggregated to power features like Trending and impression counts

4. Data Retention

Posts expire 24 hours after creation and are permanently removed from our servers during routine cleanup cycles. Comments expire when the parent post expires. Direct messages expire within 60 minutes if not accepted, and 24 hours after acceptance. Rooms expire based on their configured duration.

Your email address is retained for as long as your account exists. You may delete your account at any time, which will remove your email and all associated data from our systems.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Firebase Authentication (Google) — for account creation, login, and session management.
  • Cloud Firestore (Google) — for real-time database and data storage.
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) — for delivering push notifications.
  • Firebase Analytics (Google) — for aggregated, anonymous app usage analytics such as session duration, screen views, and feature usage. This data is not linked to your personal identity and is used solely to improve the app experience.
  • Firebase Crashlytics (Google) — for collecting anonymous crash reports and diagnostic data (device model, OS version, stack traces) to identify and fix bugs. No personal data is included in crash reports.
  • Firebase Performance Monitoring (Google) — for collecting anonymous app performance metrics such as startup time and network latency to improve app responsiveness.
  • Firebase Remote Config (Google) — for delivering feature flags and configuration updates without requiring an app update.
  • Cloudinary — for image storage and delivery. Images are removed when the associated post expires.

Google's privacy policy applies to their processing of data through Firebase services. You can learn more at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.

We do not sell, rent, share, or provide your personal data to any other third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

6. Security

All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS encryption. Authentication credentials are managed by Firebase Auth with industry-standard security practices. We regularly review our security measures to protect your data.

7. Children's Privacy

Fade is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will promptly delete that information.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request deletion of your account and all associated data
  • Opt out of push notifications at any time
  • Export your data by contacting us

9. Account & Data Deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time using either of the following methods:

  • In-app: Go to Settings and select the delete account option. This will immediately remove your account and all associated data from our systems.
  • Email request: Send a deletion request to pvrcircle@zohomail.in from the email address associated with your account. We will process your request within 7 business days.

Upon deletion, the following data is permanently removed:

  • Your email address and authentication credentials
  • Your display ID and profile information
  • Any active posts, comments, or messages (these also expire automatically within 24 hours)
  • Your device token and notification preferences
  • Your invite code and referral data

Once deleted, this action cannot be undone. You will need to create a new account if you wish to use Fade again.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through the app. Continued use of Fade after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
